Sometimes, even in a big scene, it’s the tiny details that can make all the difference in a photo. And sometimes, it’s hard to even notice those details when you’re taking the photo. For instance….the photo below was made on Monday night, just before sunset as the storm clouds rolled in over the Illinois prairie west of Chicago, storms that eventually led to the lightning image in yesterdays post. The red sun was highlighting a few of the tall clouds in the distance, and they were visible through the lower rain clouds that were quickly approaching. The view down the gravel road I was on seemed pretty neat, so I stepped out to take a few photos before the rain clouds covered up the tall colorful clouds in the distance. And the clouds are neat, but for me, what really makes this photo stand out is the two lights on in the farmhouse just down the road. They tell you that someone is home, watching the nightly news, doing chores before it gets too dark, or perhaps watching the approaching storms roll over the plains themselves. See what you think:
